William Bob Evans, 87, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, November 12, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born and raised in Matthews, GA.  After graduating from Wrens High School in 1957, he moved to Newport News to attend the Apprentice School, where he played football. He graduated in 1961.  Bob retired after 36 years of service from the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company as a MI X43 General Foreman. He loved to play golf, fish and watch football.

Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Tina Knight Evans; daughter, Deborah Evans; grandchildren Heather Marrs (Mike) of New Kent, VA and Justin Lawhorne; and great grandchildren, Brinklee and Logan Marrs.  He is also survived by his sister Anne Evans Arrington of Wrens, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Melvin Evans, Sr. and Evelyn Duke Evans of Matthews, GA; his brothers Thomas Lewis Evans and James Melvin Evans, Jr.; and son William Scott Evans.

At his request, no services will be held.  Burial will be at Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery, Matthews, GA on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 3:30 pm.  Arrangements are under the care of W. J. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Newport News, and James Funeral Home, Wrens, GA.
