Obituary

On June 10, 2024, Virginia K. Root (Ginger), 82, entered the Kingdom of Heaven. She was born in Cornwall, NY on August 4, 1941.

On May 28, 1960, she married Rev. Charles K. Root. After many church moves Chuck & Ginger moved to Newport News VA in 2000.  While working on making the move to Newport News they found Grace United Methodist Church and purchased a home close by.  They have been faithful members ever since.  Mom was part of the women's group at the church and any other activities that were happening in and around the church.

Ginger was very active with the United Methodist Marriage Encounter.  Chuck and Ginger were a presenting couple for many years.  She also held many positions with the New Jersey United Methodist Conference.  She worked on the first aide squad in Farmingdale NJ answering calls as a volunteer.  She worked as an LPN for a few years while raising her children.   She volunteered as a secretary of the cemetery association and secretary/treasurer for the Salvation Army.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Charles K. Root; her children, Charles Robert Root, Christine Joy Musto; brother, Philip; sister, Connie; grandchildren, Sierra, Charissa, Joshua, Michael, Charles, and Laura; and great grandchildren, Carolina, Selena, Adelynn, Shane, Thomas, and Michael Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff and healthcare providers at The Chesapeake for giving exceptional care of Ginger and Chuck over the past six years. It was so nice to know that they had a few final days just a couple of doors down from each other in the healthcare.  Thank you also to her wonderful sister-in-law Maggie, Phil and Connie for standing in when the children couldn't.

Visitation will be on Saturday June 15, 2024, at 4-5 PM with a Memorial service following at 5:00 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church, 1209 Country Club Rd, Newport News, VA 23606. Reception immediately following service sponsored by the Woman of Grace United Methodist Church.
