NEWPORT NEWS
Timothy Earl Toler passed away peacefully at home in Newport News, Virginia in the early morning of September 5, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on September 25th, 2021 at Rosemary Church of Christ in Washington, NC and will be officiated by Mike Caton. A visitation will immediately follow until 3:00pm.
Tim, affectionately known as "Timmy" or "Dad", was born in Newport News on August 1, 1961 at Riverside Hospital. Throughout his life he lived in various places but always considered Little Washington as home. In 1992 he and then wife, Sheila Toler (Sanders) welcomed their first born, Racheal Diane. Three years later, in 1995 they brought home a baby boy, Colton Lewis.
Tim was a very talented electrician and was certified in Electrical Engineering Technology. At the time of his passing he was employed by Imerys and a member of the Boilermakers Union. Other previous employers include Enviva, PCS, Weyerhaeuser and the Newport News Ship Building. He always enjoyed learning new skills and hobbies. He had various interests such as riding motorcycles and working with his hands, but his one true love was fishing. He knew the waters of Eastern North Carolina by heart and always had the best fishing advice. He was happiest when he was on a boat. When he wasn't fishing, he could still be found doing something outdoors. He loved to go camping and enjoyed nature. At night, he could be found watching a Nationals game with his mom. Tim was extremely handy and could figure out how to fix almost anything that was broken. He loved helping others, especially family, with projects or anything that needed to be done. He will be remembered for his passion and enthusiasm when it came to learning and teaching others.
Tim is survived by his children, as well as his mother Hazel; sisters Betsi (Jason) and Cynthia (Greg); brother, Gerald Jr. and honorary brother Robert Gianferrara. He also leaves nieces Kasey Sellers, Marie Nuckles, Marissa Calbert, Karen Toler, Kelly Brinn; nephews Robbie Edmonds (Shannon), Ryan Edmonds, and Scott Edmonds, along with several great nephews and a great niece whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Toler, Sr. and his brother, Julian Lewis Toler.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Riverside Hospital and Hospice, especially his nurses Kathy, Shavonda and Heather.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123
