Thomas J.
Yager
d. Aug 16, 2022
Thomas J. Yager, 81, passed away after an extended illness August 16, 2022, with family in attendance. In his 40+ year NASA career as a research engineer he was known internationally as an expert on runways and pavement surfaces. After retirement he continued to be contacted as an information resource.
In his personal life he was the consummate volunteer, always ready to help individuals or organizations with their needs or projects. He was a very active member of the Hampton Mercury Lions Chapter and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. He was also an active member of the Unity Williamsburg Spiritual Center and served year after year in numerous Board positions, and was a very active member of the Friends of Bill.
He was an avid golfer and in his younger years participated in nearly every after-work sport for which NASA offered teams. This love of sports transferred to his three children too, and then to his grandchildren.
Those who knew him best will remember his easy smile, his quiet wit, his gentle spirit and his willingness to help. He is survived by his wife Susan Yager; his brother George (Phyllis) Yager; his children, Lisa (Greg) Richards, Michael (Ilana) Yager, and Katherine (Darren) Holokai; and seven amazing grandchildren.
A memorial service will honor his life Wednesday, August 24, 2022, 11:00 AM at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1509 Todds Lane, Hampton.
If you would like to make a charitable donation in his memory, please make it to the charity of your choice. Our Tom supported many nonprofit organizations. If he had a favorite, it was probably the Lions Clubs; please donate to your local Lions Club chapter or volunteer at your favorite nonprofit with Tom in your heart.
