Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Edward Mullis passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2023, at the age of 51, at his home in Newport News, Virginia.

Those who knew Tom know he loved his food, his jokes, and more importantly his family. He was always extremely proud of his children and always believed they'd go on to do great things in life.

He was born to Dean "Skip" and Cynthia "Cindy" Mullis on July 1, 1972. After graduating high school, Tom entered the millwright apprenticeship program.

Tom lived his life like a rolling stone. Tom joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was baptized. Tom had a strong love for music of all genres and was never short on jokes. Tom's love for his family was evident anytime you talked to him. Tom is survived by his father Skip, his brother and sister Paul and Brandy, his children Ashley, Gui, Liam, 2 grandchildren Ian and Jun, and many In-laws, Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As a kid, Tom could never sit still. He probably spent as much time in the principal's office as he did in class. This is before there was a diagnosis of ADHD and medication to slow kids down who lived in hyper-drive, as Tom did. Despite his ADHD, he became a journeyman in the millwright industry. Tom got his passion for working with his hands from his dad. Tom and his brother worked many weekends and summer days on cars with their dad or with each other. Growing up Tom played several sports throughout his childhood. He started wrestling in the 3rd grade and continued until the 10th grade. He played baseball starting with t-ball and continued until the end of middle school. He also tried playing football in elementary school, but he decided to stick to wrestling and baseball.

Tom was extremely funny, no matter the situation, he could find a way to make everyone laugh. He would make the funniest sounds completely out of the blue. He would make the funniest faces and tell great jokes. He did these things to bring those around him up if they were down, or in awkward situations, or if he was stressed.

A celebration of life will be held October 29, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at his parents' home in Hampton, Virginia. Please contact Skip Mullis at 757-816-1742 for details. In lieu of flowers, a go fund me has been setup to help his children. There is an online memory book available to those wanting to share photos or stories they had with Tom.
