Tanya (Susie) Colleen Back Culp, 72, joined her husband in death, Calvin Ray Culp, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. She was born in Newport News on August 31, 1949 and graduated in the Class of 1967 from Newport News High School. After graduation she became a paralegal at the Ellison & Fox Law Firm. She married her childhood sweetheart on November 16, 1968. During Calvin's years of service in Germany, Sue joined him there to live and started a family during his deployment there. For almost 20 years, she and Calvin have run the Elmer Gifting Center which helps nonprofit organizations provide services and supplies to help with the elderly, disabled, children, sick and needy in the community. She was a lifelong resident of Newport News.

Susie always said that Calvin would not be able to live without the other. She is preceded in death by her husband who passed away just three days before her; her father Elmer Back; her mother Ellene Webb Back and her brother Everettt Duane Back. Susie and Calvin have three children: Kevin Culp (Christy), Kerry Culp and Kerrin Culp Palmer Patrizio (John) and dedicated their life to raising two of their grandchildren Corey Culp (Isabella) and Codi Culp (Samantha).Sue leaves behind several grandchildren: Kyle, Gabby, Destiny, Kari, Dakota, Julie-Ann Palmer Davidson, Danielle Palmer Mireau, Cheyenne and Christain. Also left behind are a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and two sisters Pam Back and Anita Back Adkins (Okey).

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home from 6-7:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Elmer Back Gifting Center.
