Susan B. Yager, 71, passed away after an extended illness April 29, 2023. In her varied career she served as an inspector for VDOT and as a technical writer for NASA. In retirement she expressed her creativity through working with clay, learning and teaching new techniques, and striving for unique creations. Her work with clay led her to participate in the local Empty Bowls fundraiser to end hunger. She volunteered in this effort for many years, and served in a leadership role when needed.

A lifelong lover of nature, Susie became interested in native plants and pursued her own education by becoming a Master Naturalist and member of the Virginia Native Plants Society. She was a dedicated volunteer, leading native plant walks, participating in Frog Watch, teaching after-school nature programs for children, and devoting many hours to native plants at the Virginia Living Museum.

Those who knew her best will remember her sharp wit, her easy laugh, and her desire to continue learning. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Thomas Yager. She is survived by siblings, Polly (Jack) Oliver, Robert C. Brothers, Nancy (Alan) DeGhionno; and loving members of the Yager family, including Tom's three adult children and seven amazing grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM followed by a contemporary Celebration of Life memorial service on Saturday, June 10, 2023, 3:30 PM at W. J. Smith and Son Funeral Home, 210 Harpersville Rd, Newport News, VA.
