Shirley Rasnick Salyer, age 88, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024.

Shirley was born in Hazel, VA.  She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was very involved in many activities including the Women's Missionary Union and teaching Sunday School. Shirley enjoyed writing poetry and painting. She retired from the Newport News School System having taught 5th and 6th grades at Briarfield, Hidenwood, and Reservoir Elementary Schools.

Shirley was beloved by her whole family:  her husband of 66 years, Ray Salyer, their daughter Janet and her husband Scott, her two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren will cherish her memory. She is also survived by two sisters, Gerri and Myrna, and a brother Grover "GC".

A visitation will be held in Manna Church (formerly Tabernacle Baptist Church) on Monday, December 30 beginning at 10 AM. A Funeral Service will follow immediately at 11 AM. Burial will be at Castlewood, Virginia. At Castlewood, a visitation and a committal service will be held in the Temple Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery.
