Sarah Chenault, 95, of Newport News peacefully passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026. Originally from Millboro, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence & Thelma Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, M.O. Clarke, her husband Robert Chenault, her brothers George & W.F. "Bebo" Brown & her sister, Mary Elizabeth Brown. She is survived by her son, Jeff Clarke & daughter-in-law, Kathee Clarke of Virginia Beach, a grand-daughter, Heather Mack, a grand-son, Thomas Mack, 3 great-grandsons, & a sister-in-law, Brenda Brown.
A resident of Newport News for most of her life, she was a homemaker whose life revolved around her family & her faith. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newport News & a prior member of Temple Baptist Church for many years. She had a beautiful singing voice & was involved in choral groups at both churches.
She worked for several seasons at Busch Gardens in The French shoppes.

A memorial service will take place on Sunday, August 16 at 2 pm at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Newport News.

The family would like to thank the Hidenwood Assisted Living Center & Bridge Hospice for their wonderful care in her last months.
