Ruth Ann
Mormon
d. Sep 9, 2021
Newport News
Ruth Ann Mormon, the daughter of the late Louis and Conolia Slade, was born September 26, 1941, in Newport News, Virginia. She was one of three children. She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Russell D. Mormon; one grandson, Mitchell J. Mormon, Jr. and one son-in-law, Lawrence Brown III. Her "Christian Walk" began at Cary's Baptist Church in Yorktown. Ruth confessed her faith in GOD and always praised and thanked HIM for everything. At Cary's, she was on the Senior Usher Board, attended bible studies, Sunday School, participated on various ministry committees; and always kept the Word of God close to her heart.
Ruth received her early education in the York County public schools and graduated from James Weldon Johnson High School in 1959. She played basketball and was in the band, where she was one of the school's first drum majors for the "mighty hornets!" Throughout the years, she enjoyed serving on the annual (JWJ) school reunion committees. Thereafter high school, she seemed to always have a deep and profound interest for the medical field. Prior to her employment with Riveside Hospital in the intensive care unit and central processing sterilization department, she received her licensing as a certified nursing assistant from Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Ruth Ann was a very compassionate, understanding, patient, loving and devoted Mother and Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She would give you the shirt off her back. One of her most famous beginning conversation pieces was "Now here's what happened." She loved visiting her mother, she loved jewelry, hats and purses! She enjoyed shopping, traveling, "watching westerns" and as you all know she was an avid, die hard Dallas Cowboy fan and her favorite place to eat was Golden Corral! She was strong, but gentle woman. No matter what, she always had a beautiful smile on her face, a unique sense of humor and always loved to laugh and talk to everyone she met along life's journey!
On September 9, 2021, GOD dispatched his angels and she peacefully entered the home of eternal life with the Lord. She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories with her son, Mitchell J. Mormon, Sr.; two daughters, Angela M. Brown and Pamela K. Mormon; two daughters - in - laws, Gloria (Mitchell) and Darlene (Preceded Russell); five grandchildren, Keisha, Rochalle, Mechelle, Marquis, and Russell, Jr.; six great-grandchildren and one brother, Larry A. Slade (Pamela); one sister, Beatrice Parker; one "special friend, " Alvin Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family.
