Russell "Skid" Skidmore, Jr., 79, passed away on November 15, 2024 at Mary Immaculate Hospital after a long illness. He fought a long battle. He retired from Fort Eustis after 43 years of dedicated service; Civil Service and with contractors.

Russell loved his clocks and working on them; his lamp collection; and gardening.  He was a people person and a jokester.

He is survived by his loving family, who were by his side, his wife of 63 years Doris Skidmore; two sons, Russell Skidmore, III and Scott Skidmore; his daughter Penny Herrea; a special niece and nephew who held a special place in his heart, Patrick and Diane DeWitt; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson Je Veon, who made him laugh.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 22nd, in the chapel of W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
