Obituary

Ruby C. Fleshman (90) passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026 after an extended time with Alzheimer's.  Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert B. (Bob) Fleshman, who passed away just three weeks earlier.  Ruby spent her last 18 months in memory care at Harpers Station in Yorktown where she was remarkably content and happy, due in large part to the great care she received there.  She loved to sing in her strong alto voice, and until her last few weeks, could often be found singing at church, or at Harpers Station in front of the communal TV or the weekly Wednesday live music events.

Ruby is survived by her son Robert (Lori) of Fort Myers, Florida; daughter Jane (Gary, deceased) of Yorktown; and four grandchildren, all of whom knew they were dearly loved by Ruby, but who also knew (and were fine with the fact) that her world really revolved around her five great-grandchildren.  Ruby is also survived by a brother-in-law, George William Fleshman (Jerry, deceased) of Dillwyn; a sister-in-law, Ann Webb (Bob) of Fredericksburg; and numerous nephews and nieces with whom she stayed close until her passing.

Ruby was a native of West Virginia and moved to the Peninsula after high school.  She had a number of secretarial and administrative assistant jobs over the years before she and Bob retired in 1999 to begin 26 very active, fulfilling, and healthy years together as they continued their many volunteer and church activities.  As Bob and then Ruby passed just weeks apart, one joint Celebration of Life service was held on March 8, 2026 at Seaford Baptist Church.  After 65 years of marriage, including the last 26 years together in retirement, the family was very pleased that Bob and Ruby could be remembered together in one service.
