Obituary

Ronald Bruce Weiss passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024. Born and raised in Newport News, the second of three sons born to Charles and Kathryn Weiss. Ronnie graduated from Warwick High School and the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School.

Ronnie retired from Huntington-Ingalls Newport News in 2015 as a Design Engineer. He was most proud of his work on the propulsion plant HVAC design on the Gerald R. Ford CVN78 aircraft carrier spanning more than 15 years.

He was loved and cherished by his family, known fondly by many as Papa. He was devoted to and loved his family without measure. The family is saddened by his passing but thankful he is breathing freely and happily reunited with his son Matthew.

Ronnie loved sailing his boat, was active in church volunteer activities including mission trips to support disaster rebuilding and providing care to anyone in need. He never passed up the opportunity to contribute or help with any project.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Katie Weiss, and his son, Matthew Allen Weiss. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Ellen; son Mark and his wife Heather of Duvall, WA; daughter Elizabeth "Beth" Edmondson and her husband Chad of Poquoson;

grandchildren Mikaela, Emma, Ashley, Trevor, Ariya, Elliana, Easton and Camden; a great-granddaughter Dakota; brothers Charles H. Weiss, Jr and his wife Kathryn of Las Vegas, NV and Lawrence Weiss and his wife Heather of Moscow, TN, and a large extended family.

The family wishes to thank his physicians Eugene Link MD and Agnieszka Petersen, MD for their compassionate care during his illness.
