Rodney Arlen Smith, 89, died on Monday, May 3, 2021. Rodney was born in Wayne County, NC, and moved to Hampton soon after.
He graduated from Hampton High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1950. Following his service to his country, he attended and graduated from the NASA Apprentice School as an Electrician in 1961, and retired as a Quality Assurance Specialist in 1989 after 35 years of service. He loved spending time with friends at Hardee's; where he would be found eating biscuits and gravy Monday thru Saturday.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Nancy G. Smith; daughter Pamela Langley and her husband Jerry; son Michael Smith and his wife Deborah; daughter Kelly Howland and her husband Bob; son Scott Smith; grandsons, Richard Cillo, Cory Smith, Kyle Smith, Clint Smith, Kurt Smith; granddaughters, Nancy Marney, Sara Langley; and great-granddaughters, Sophia and Zoey.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing are required. All other services will be private.
