Robert "Bob" Willard Moore, Jr. of Newport News stepped in the arms of Jesus on February 7, 2022, at the age of 78. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with diabetes.
Bob served in the Army Special Forces as a Green Beret from 1961-1964 and retired from Canon Virginia in 2007.
He met the love of his life, Patty, in 1965 at G.C Murphy Company in Newport News; they married on January 29, 1966, during the blizzard of '66 and they just celebrated their 56th anniversary.
He was a patriot who loved God, his country, his wife, his family, and his church. Over the years, he passionately enjoyed stamp collecting, billiards, popcorn, dominoes, Tommy's Restaurant, and reading his wife's Facebook messages. He may have seemed quiet at first, but once you spent any time with him, you got to experience his sweet personality and his dry sense of humor. He loved to take daily drives, whether in his car or, later in life, in his electric wheelchair; to get out, enjoy the weather, and, most especially, to "people watch."
Bob was a fierce fighter who kept a positive attitude and smile on his face. He was very loved by his family and all who knew him.
Bob was a former member of New Covenant Church and, for the last 9 years, worshiped as a member of LibertyLive Church, whether in person or online.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Willard Moore Sr., and Roberta Louise Moore, and his sister, Nora Lee Lasher. He is survived by his wife, Patty; daughters, Dawn Moore Brown (Jeff) and Theresa Moore Bondurant (Trent); grandchildren, Abigail Brown, Allison Brown, Ben Brown, Isaac Bondurant, and Luke Bondurant; and great-granddaughter, Penelope Bondurant, and his faithful fur buddy, Harley.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel at LibertyLive Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton VA 23666. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm, followed by the service at 3:00 pm. The service can also be viewed live at
