Robert "Bob" Dean Arledge, Sr., passed away on September 24, 2022 at the age of 92. Bob was born in Shelby, NC, but was a Peninsula resident for 80 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wade H. and Vista Belle Arledge; his brother Wade Arledge; and his wife of 54 years, Dalys Aleyda Arledge.

Bob is survived by his wife Anne Lydia Arledge; his four children, Anavista (Doug), Robert, Jr. "Bobby" (Kaye), David, Christine; and two grandchildren, Coty and Zachary.

Bob retired a Staff Sergeant with the 384th US Army Band as its Operations NCO, Drum Major, First Sergeant, and Enlisted Band leader. He received numerous awards in this capacity which included the Army Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Clusters) and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his 20 plus year Army career, Bob continued with his passion for music and entertained the area with the many bands he was involved in, directing for many years the Peninsula Concert Band and later the Yorktown Coast Guard Concert Band. He also formed and performed with "Schnickelfritz and the OOM-PAH's" doing authentic German music. On his adventurous side, Bob and Anne rode his Can-Am motorcycle into his mid 80's and were members of the Christian Motorcyclist Association whose motto was
"Riding for the Son".

The family would like to thank the staff of Harmony on the Peninsula for their care and compassion in his final days.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Huntington Mennonite Church, 785 Harpersville Road, Newport News with the Rev. Howard Miller officiating. A private burial will take place following the service in Warwick River Mennonite Church Cemetery.
