Obituary

Robert "RC" Campbell, 68, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away tragically on November 2, 2024, in a motorcycle accident. Born on October 18, 1956, in Newport News, VA, RC lived a life filled with adventure, hard work, and a deep love for his family, friends, and the outdoors.

RC was the beloved son of Margaret "Margie" Campbell and the late William "Bobby" Campbell, who predeceased him on June 24, 2020. He was the husband of Rebecca Campbell, his wife of 48 years. They were married in 1976, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. RC is survived by his children, Christopher Robert Campbell and wife Christen, and Jessica Campbell Firth and husband Mac, who blessed him with seven cherished grandchildren and the light of his life; Alvin, Makenna, Colton, Cooper, Canyon, Sawyer, and Ember as well as one great grandchild, Caroline. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Butler, and her husband, Mike Butler, as well as a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, and their children.

A graduate of Warwick High School in 1974, RC began his career as a machinist at Craft Machine Works. He worked for many years at Howmet, where he forged lifelong friendships before opening his own machine shop, Eagle Machine, which he successfully ran for 15 years. RC concluded his precision tool and die making career working in the aerospace machine shop at NASA. His work-life was threaded with one common theme, precision. He was known for his meticulous nature and his expert problem-solving skills. He was often heard saying "Can't get anything done with your hands in your pockets," most likely in a less politically correct way but none-the-less reflected his dedication to a strong work ethic and no-nonsense approach.

Outside of work, RC was an avid outdoorsman. He found peace and joy in hunting and competitive archery and fishing. His lifelong passion for motorcycles and hotrods, inspired by his father, Bobby Campbell, led to many road trips and car shows. Throughout his life he also loved billiards, bowling and NASCAR. His adventures were often accompanied by the phrase, "I probably shouldn't have done that, but we sure had a heck of a good time while we did it."

RC had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Aid Society in his memory.

A celebration of RC's life will be held on Sunday, November 10th at 1 PM at Hampton Friends Church, located at 1062 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton, Virginia, officiated by Pastor Dennis Peters. For those who ride, please bring your motorcycle to honor RC with a proper sendoff as we say goodbye to a man who loved to live on the wild side and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
