Richard O. Westrich, Sr., husband of Kathryn, father of Lori, Rick, Heather, dearest love and companion to Bella who chose him as hers, passed away December 6, 2023. His extended family includes his sister in law Lesa McGuire, her husband Paul, daughter Jessica, son Alan; nephews, Charles Blair, Kevin Blair and his wife Morgan.  Richard was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and still has many family members there and in surrounding states, including his brother Roy and his wife Joan; his sister Audrey, sister Marlene and her husband Jack; and brother Ronald.  He will be dearly missed every day by all who loved him.

Richard, also known as Wes or Pokey, worked 49 years Civil Service at Ft. Monroe and he knew it like the back of his hand.  Richard made many friends there with his outgoing personality and complete knowledge of his subject.  He enjoyed playing softball with organized teams, and participated in many tournaments between military/civil service teams across the country.

He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting various items that he cataloged meticulously.  He planted large vegetable gardens that he freely shared with any and all people who expressed a wish to receive. Richard liked nothing better than to hand weed the garden and flower beds with the heat of summer on his back.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-4:00 PM on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Commanding General's Residence, 33 Fenwick Road, Fort Monroe, Virginia, 23651.
