RaNetta "Rae" R. Mitchum passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the age of 73.  Rae was born November 15, 1952 in Nevada, Missouri.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Raymond Mitchum and Elsie Vernette Peak and her brother, Kenny Mitchum.

A niece, Portia Mitchum and nephew Chris Mitchum survive her.

Rae lived in several places, Massachusetts, California, and settling in Virginia to be near her brother.  She held numerous jobs, eventually earning a degree from St. Leo's College and retiring from  Newport News Shipbuilding.

Music, writing, reading and doing cross-stitch kept her occupied in her free time. She joined the Greek Orthodox Church where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society and Daughters of the Penelope.

Her love of singing led her to join the Virginia Choral Society.

She was an active member of Chapter B, VA, P.E.O. Sisterhood. She served in various offices and two terms as President.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 29th at 11:00 AM at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.
