Radonna Marie Hankinson, better known as Donna, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023, in Newport News, VA, at the age of 81. She was born on August 22, 1942, in Hagerstown, MD, to the late Charles R. Berry and Dorothy M. Berry.
Donna was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dave Hankinson of Williamsburg, VA, her brother Michael Berry and wife Kathy of Austin, TX, her brother Stephen Berry of Ocean View, DE, and her sister Carolyn Clipp of Bethany Beach, DE. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy Berry.
Donna's educational journey began in Boonsboro, and she was a proud graduate of Boonsboro High School. She then attended Frostburg State College and later graduated from the Maryland Medical Secretarial School.
Donna had a long-distinguished career, holding various roles throughout her working life. She worked on Capitol Hill and served as a member of Vice President Walter Mondale's staff. She also worked at Mack Trucks, Williams & Jensen, Goodyear, Randall International, and Habitat for Humanity. It was at Mack Trucks where she met her loving husband, Dave, 40 years ago.
In her free time, Donna enjoyed indulging in her passion for cooking, showcasing her exceptional skills in the kitchen. She was an avid reader and remained engaged in current political events and their coverage. Donna and Dave shared a love for travel, having explored Europe extensively, with London and Paris being their favorite destinations. They also cherished their riverboat cruises with AMA Waterways. Donna and Dave were big fans of Williamsburg and were able to make the move there five years ago and have loved every minute spent there. This was the last of 13 moves for them.
A celebration of life memorial service in honor of Donna will be held on October 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the historic St. Mark's Episcopal Church located at 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, MD. The compassionate professionals at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Newport News, VA, are assisting the family with the arrangements. Dave wants to extend his gratitude to the staff of Elite Elder Care, especially her primary care giver LaTise, Miss Loretta, Ajah, Thomas, and Tony the owner of the company.
