Obituary

Phillip Norris Hayes, loving husband of Pauline, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2021 with his family by his side.

"Norris" as most people knew him, was a native of North Carolina but called the Peninsula his home for more than 60 years. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as an electrician after 40 years of dedicated service. He also proudly served our Country in the Navy during the Korean War.

He provided unselfishly for his family and was especially proud of his three sons.

Those who were close to Norris quickly got use to and came to enjoy his dry sense of humor and he was a pleasure to be around even though he could argue with you about anything! He was somewhat of a perfectionist and enjoyed working on his yard and in his garden. He also enjoyed taking care of several very special poodles (Snoopy, Squeaky and Rocky) through the years.

Norris is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline; his eldest son Danny (Tanya); his youngest son William (Marybeth); and one grandchild, Ashley Hayes. He was preceded in death by his middle son Phillip "Gene" Hayes; his parents, William and Annie Hayes; and a brother, Jimmy Hayes. He also leaves behind two very special friends, Janene Purvis and Danny Ratcliff.

Pauline would like to thank Dr. Kent Willyard, his staff and the staffs of Personal Touch Hospice and Virginia Oncology Associates for the dedication and care they provided to Norris.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in the mausoleum at Parklawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required.
