It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and cherished member of our community. Patricia passed away peacefully in her home on December 29, 2024, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Patricia was born in Hannibal, MO on June 22, 1936, and a life-long resident of Newport News. She lived a life filled with dedication and compassion. As a devoted military wife, she exemplified strength and grace while supporting her family through the challenges and sacrifices that come with military life and enjoyed the many beautiful places she was able to see. She was a member of Ivy Farms Church of the Brethren, and she retired from JC Penney after 25 years in the stockroom.
Patricia was known for her loving and kind spirit, which she generously shared with everyone around her. She had a special way of making people feel valued and cared for, leaving an indelible mark on her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her resilience and unwavering positivity were an inspiration to those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Patricia is survived by her two sons, Larry K. Akers, Terry Gene Akers and wife Chris; a daughter and her husband, Janet and James Asby; grandsons, Phillip Asby, Kenny Akers and wife Elizabeth; granddaughters, Natalie Asby, Becky Bean and husband Nick, and all her great-great-great grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren whom she cherished deeply and whose memories she carried with her always.
