Pamela
Slade
Jan 30, 1948 — May 30, 2026
Pamela Foster Payne Slade, daughter of the late Charles H. Payne, Sr. and Lucille Love Payne, was born on January 30, 1948, in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was the oldest and only daughter of three children. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Gregory Myron Payne. Pamela grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia where everyone knew and cared for one another in the "tightly knit community of Carver Gardens. Her Christian Journey began at St. John Baptist Church in Williamsburg, where she was an active member with her family. She was a beautiful "Woman of God" who was quiet, humble, meek spirited, and never complained about anything. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone.
Pamela was educated in the York County School System beginning at Bruton Heights in Williamsburg and graduating from James Weldon Johnson in York County, June 1966. Excelling in her academic studies, she also participated in extracurricular activities and participated as a member of the "Hornets" band! She would often talk about James Weldon Johnson, how she enjoyed her learning experiences, becoming an on-fire drum major and majorette for those "stinging and on fire hornets".
James Weldon Johnson was where she met the "Love of her life". It was there that she met her beloved Larry Alfred Slade. They were both smitten by one another. It was love at first sight! On December 10, 1966, they joined in Holy Matrimony. Three beautiful children, Tracey, Chris and Lamar, were born to this union. They both worshipped at Cary's Baptist Church, where she served on the Senior Usher Board for 50 Years and assisted with Vacation Bible School each summer.
Pamela worked in the York County School system for 17 years as a school bus driver and enjoyed every moment of it. She loved the children as if they were her own. Her hobbies were traveling or a simple evening ride, reading, crossword puzzles, preparing wonderful meals, watching her favorite food network television shows, the westerns and comedies. She loved to entertain and prepare for family gatherings, cookouts, and the presence of guests having fun and enjoying themselves.
Soreah, Koi, Landon, Logan, Kai and Chloe are her six grandchildren. They are the apple of her eye! She was very proud of every one of them and loved them tremendously!
On Saturday, May 30, 2026, she went home to be with her Savior, whom she loved with all her heart. She will forever be loved and cherished by her husband, Larry Alfred Slade; children, Christopher Slade, Lamar Slade (Ebony) and Tracey Slade; six grandchildren; Brother, Charles H. Payne, Jr.; Sister-In-Law, Beatrice Parker; nieces, nephews, relatives and church family.
