Obituary

Born in Camden, SC, Ola Mae, known as "Honey," was one of John & Mae Tabor's 11 children.  She married Howard Pilkey on March 13, 1946, and remained a widow after his death in 1979.  She is survived by two daughters - Barbara Snyder (Henry) and Wanda Rammell (Wayne); five grandchildren - Brian Snyder (Angela), Jared Snyder (Lindsey), Austin Rammell (Keri), Amanda Lolofie (Marcus), and Andrew Rammell; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She sincerely, lovingly, and faithfully embraced her identity as a military wife and mother, but her most defining identity was as a redeemed child of God.  She loved reading, studying, and teaching the Bible because her greatest passion in life was knowing and following Jesus.  She and her family moved to Hampton, VA, in 1964 and almost immediately joined Liberty Baptist Church.  Soon thereafter, she began to teach Sunday School and did so with a commitment to Biblical accuracy and inspirational relevancy until she was 92 years old.

After Howard died in 1979, she began volunteering in the commercial kitchen at Liberty, and eventually, they hired her.  She worked there until she was 85 years old.  Her famous chicken salad was a church-wide favorite, but her spunk, tenacity, leadership, and most of all, love, are the fruits that most significantly impacted the world around her.  Her life verse was Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a HOPE." She will be loved and missed for all the right reasons.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton, with a funeral following at 11:30 AM. COVID-19 restrictions are being followed and masks and social distancing are required. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
