Nancy Graham Smith, an 88 year old beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, passed away on July 24, 2023.  Nancy was born in Newport News, Virginia to Richard and Elva Gwaltney and lived in Hampton for much of her life.  She married Rodney A. Smith on June 14, 1952, and she traveled the country with him while he worked at NASA.  Nancy had a passion for traveling; she loved collecting post cards from her excursions and enjoyed telling stories from her trips.  She was also an avid University of Virginia sports fan; she and her husband attended many games to cheer for the HOOS.  She loved to work in the garden and she enjoyed sitting on her swing in her backyard looking out over her flowers.  She was a strong woman who took care of many people throughout her lifetime; she was a true matriarch.

Nancy is remembered by her daughter, Pam Langley and her husband Jerry, Michael Smith and his wife Debbie, Kelly Howland and her husband Bob, and Scott Smith.  Her grandchildren were very important to her; Richard Cillo, Jason Langley, Sara Langley, Cory Smith, Kurt Smith, Kyle Smith, Clint Smith, Nancy Jean Marney, Jonathan Howland and Selena Howland.  Her great-grandchildren, Sophia and Zoey Smith and Emma Marney were also very important to her.  She was a strong woman who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk.
