Nancy Seay
Rogers
Jan 31, 1941 — Feb 2, 2026
"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matt. 25:23
Nancy Rogers went joyously to her forever home two days after her 85th birthday. She was ready and eager to join Jesus and her beloved husband and parents. She made her last wishes regarding her services very clear, down to the hymns to be sung. "It Is Well with My Soul" reflects the theme of her closing days. As she would have hoped, Nancy's bedside was surrounded by her loved ones here on earth until her last peaceful moments.
Nancy was born to Reuben Birdwell Seay, Jr. and his wife Lavinia Turner Seay on the cusp of World War II and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. She became a Christian at an early age and met the love of her life, George McKinley Rogers, III, (Mac) at her church's youth group when they were both 15. Nancy graduated from Norview High School in 1958 and used her considerable secretarial skills to work and save for a wedding while Mac attended the University of Virginia. They married in 1962 and Nancy loved their year together in Charlottesville.
After his graduation from UVA in 1963, Nancy and Mac moved to Richmond, where he continued his education at T.C. Williams School of Law. After graduation, they moved to Denbigh, where Mac joined the Newport News Commonwealth's Attorney office and then the Hampton Bar while Nancy raised their two sons, George M. Rogers, IV and Adam Seay Rogers.
Nancy was known for her bright smile, great laugh, and positive outlook on life. Her Christian faith was the unfaltering beacon which held her path steady and true. She was self-educated, well-read, and could beat almost anyone in a game of Scrabble. Nancy loved fiercely and truly cared for others, actively ministering over the years in several different Baptist churches on the Peninsula.
After retirement, Nancy served faithfully for several years as her husband's caregiver until his passing in 2018. She spent the last years of her life missing him and being a devoted "Grammy" to Kevin and Kyle Rogers, Christopher and Michael Dudley, and Annabelle Rogers Tollan, who recently blessed Nancy with great-granddaughter Winter Tollan.
In addition to these, surviving Nancy to honor her memory are devoted older son Ken Rogers and younger son Adam Rogers. Also missing her deeply are cherished sister Linda Whitehurst and her children, David (and his stepson, Dylan Mills); John (and son Jeremy); and Leslie Whitehurst (and her children, Ethan and Chase). Nancy's daughter-in-love, Karen Dudley McCook (Charlie); special friends Linda and Art Phelps; and good friend and neighbor Grace Ann Neuhart (who adopted Nancy's beloved canine companion, Ginnie) will always remember her with much love. She is also survived by a dear brother-in-law, David Rogers, of Charlottesville, Virginia.
