Obituary

Nancy Jean (Mitchell) Nichols made her Heavenly journey on Monday, October 30, 2023, in the home she loved being in for over 50 years.
Nancy was born on October 15, 1932, in Warwick County, now Newport News, attended Warwick County Schools, graduating from Warwick High School.  For many years she attended her high school class reunions until many if not most of her classmates had passed away.
She was the daughter of T. Russell and Geneva Mitchell.  She was married to the love of her life, Charles D. Nichols, Sr. for over 56 years.
She leaves behind her adoring children, David (Debi), Betsie (Bill) Clary and Tim (Suzy).  Along with her children she was blessed and loved by her 7 Grandchildren, Laura, Kate, Emily, Caroline, Patrick, Hank and Charlie.
She lived long enough to know/love on her Great Grandchildren, Clara Grace, Lizzie, Claire, Lorelei, and Gray.
Nancy lived life to the fullest, starting early in life learning from her Grandfather Mitchell in horticulture, planting trees in Colonial Williamsburg, working as a designer and then ultimately owning with her brother, Russell, Mitchell Florist in Newport News.  She grew up in Denbigh Baptist Church, came to know her Lord, met and married Charlie, later in life moved her membership and worked and served in First Baptist Church for over 30 years. The last few years she reconnected with life-long childhood friends she grew up with in the Denbigh area and was an active participant of Providence Mennonite Church.
Besides the gift of being able to design beautiful floral arrangements, she was a talented musician, continuing over the years to play her piano proficiently at home, visited and played piano with a ministry team from First Baptist in multiple health care locations across the Peninsula and as recently as the last year, she filled in on a few of the Providence Sunday morning worship services at 90 years young.
She lived her life as a great lady of faith, a prayer warrior, Sunday School teacher, and sharing love to all that she met.  Despite being confined to her home the last few months, she made time daily for her prayer list lifting the needs folks shared with her.  She ultimately made great connections with the "angels of mercy" that came in and out of her home the last few months, building final lasting relationships.
We are so grateful for the incredible, professional and tender care she received through Riverside Healthcare's "At Home" program, our "Evening Angels," and for the outstanding Riverside Hospice team, Doctor McConaughy and Nikki Dame who surpassed all expectations for care.
Nancy Nichols, well done, Good and Faithful Servant.
