Obituary

Nancy Ironmonger Forrest, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022, after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was a Seaford native, born to Thurman Taylor Ironmonger and Grace Owens Ironmonger. Nancy was a lifetime member of Zion United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of the Builder's Sunday School Class and served many years on various committees such as the Board of Trustees and the Hospitality Committee. Nancy retired as a Chief Deputy Treasurer for the County of York Treasurer's Office in 1989.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Raymond Spencer Forrest; two children, Denise Forrest Weston and her husband Ronnie, of Yorktown, and Nathan Spencer Forrest and his wife Debbie of Grafton; four grandchildren, Chad T. Messick and his wife Heather of Newport News, Justin R. Weston and his wife Kayla of Yorktown, Benjamin Asbury of Newport News, and Brice Asbury of Easley, SC; and five great-grandsons, Leland T. Messick, Elijah R. Weston, Asher B. Weston, Levi K. Weston, and one on the way, Noah W. Weston.

Nancy was an amazing Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was a true nurturer, loving compassionately and unconditionally. She possessed a "never give up" attitude and witty sense of humor which served her well right up to the end. She was a classic southern cook, loved good food and loved to entertain in her home, encircled by her family and friends who meant the world to her. Throughout her community and church family she would express her love and appreciation of others by cooking and delivering a full meal, complete with one or two of her homemade delectable desserts. She literally lived to make everyone else happy; it didn't matter what was going on with her, she always put others first. Aside from cooking, she loved fishing, clamming, butterflies, and songbirds. She just plain loved being outdoors, and she couldn't wait for Spring and Summer each year so she could plant her flowers and climb on board her riding lawn mower to cut the grass in her ½ acre yard!

The family wishes to thank dedicated Caregivers, Amy, Brenda, Cathy, Darlene, Michelle and Millie. Their love and support enabled Nancy to remain in the home she and Raymond have shared for 59 years, until she was called to her heavenly home. We wish to also thank Dr. Teresa McConaughy and nurses Heather, and Dannielle for the dedication to their profession and the tender loving care they provided to Nancy and her family.
