Nancy Miller Fenton, 95, lifelong Newport News resident, passed away November 25, 2024 after a short illness.  She was born on October 8, 1929 in Buxton Hospital in Newport News to William and Margaret Miller.  Nancy graduated from Newport News High School in 1948 and married the love of her life, Irvin Fenton, Jr in January 1951. In 1989 she retired from Newport News Public Schools after serving 22 years as a cafeteria manager.  Like her sister Alverta, Nancy never met a stranger and made sure that everyone she came in contact with felt welcomed and loved; this was the Light of Jesus in her.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Irvin Fenton Jr.; granddaughter Kerry Harrington Baumann; and sister Alverta Miller Nelson.  She is survived by three daughters, Nan F. Harrington (Johnnie), Amy F. Leong (George), and Carol F. Benson (Peter); six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 2, 2024 beginning at 12:30 PM at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 PM with Chaplain Bob Bryant officiating.  Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested donations be made to Peninsula Rescue Mission Women's Home, P. O. Box 377, Newport News, VA 23607.

Nancy's family is thankful for the care of Dr. George J. Kannarkat, Riverside Hospice, and Riverside Private Duty.
