Monica Lynn Hughes, 61, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2023. She was born on February 28, 1962 in Newport News to the late William R. and Gloria Marsh Hughes.

Monica loved her immediate family as well as her church family at Riverside Baptist. She also held a special place in her heart for animals.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents William R. and Gloria Marsh Hughes and her sister Karla Jane Hughes. She leaves behind two sisters, Pat Hughes and Valerie Hughes Radcliffe (Randy); two brothers, Billy Hughes (Marie) and Barry Hughes (June); and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her companion dog Bubba, and best friends Barbara, Anna, Melaina, and Tink.

A memorial service to celebrate Monica's life will take place on August 5, 2023 at 1 PM at Riverside Baptist Church, 7409 River Road, Newport News, with Pastor Tommy Davidson officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of W. J. Smith and Son Funeral Home.
