Mary Joyce Elks Wagoner, age 88, passed away on March 3, 2024.  She was the widow of James Alvin Wagoner, Jr.

Mary was born and raised in North Carolina.  She made Hampton her home for most of her life. She was a van driver for the ARC for many years. After retiring she volunteered at Sarah Bonwell Hudgins helping with crafts for the Camp.  She was a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton where she also enjoyed singing with the "Heart Throbs".  Mary also enjoyed gardening, making jewelry and sewing.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Monica Holt; her son James Preston Wagoner;  two sisters, Delores Little and Becky Bateman; and a brother Ray Elks. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Holt, Amy Holt and Jennifer Holt; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Holt, Aria and Caleb Munoz, Cheyann Myers and Isiah Furbee. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gaston Elks and Darrell Wayne Elks.

She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 1- 2:00 PM at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Joe Hunt officiating. Burial in Parklawn Memorial Park will follow the service.
