Mary Troutman
Riesbeck
d. Sep 3, 2026
Mary Troutman Riesbeck, 78, of Yorktown, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026.
Born in California in November,1947, Mary brought joy, energy, and a vibrant spirit to everyone she met. She was an accomplished athlete, with a deep passion for softball, a sport where her competitive nature and team spirit truly shined. Beyond the field, Mary was a woman of many talents. She had an enduring love for music and dancing, and her creative soul was expressed beautifully through art. For many years, her artistic touch brought holiday magic to the community as she lovingly decorated the annual Christmas display at a local arts and crafts store and built custom picture frames throughout the year. She also loved technology and became a clerk working with computers at the Newport News Shipyard while attending school in computer programming.
Mary was no stranger to difficulties in life. She spent several years in foster care in California before coming to Virginia to live with her father and stepmom as a teenager. She met David Riesbeck in high school, soon after they married and had three children. In 1987 at a young age, she suffered three brain aneurysms that ruptured and left her physically and cognitively impaired for the remainder of her life. Mary' strength shown through all the hard things that she endured. Her strength was matched by her wonderful joy and sense of humor and her childlike playfulness. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.
Mary's greatest pride, however, was her family. She is survived by her devoted children, John Riesbeck and his wife Lori, Stephen Riesbeck, and Virginia Schuszler. She also leaves behind a legacy of love in her 8 cherished grandchildren and 7 adored great-grandchildren.
Her warmth, creativity, and lively spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A private memorial service will be held. Please reach out to the family directly for additional details. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary's memory to The Hospice House of Williamsburg.
