NEWPORT NEWS

Obituary

Quietly on June 12, 2024, Mary Christine Reynolds, age 86, slipped away to meet the Savior she had worshipped all of her life.

She was born on March 16, 1938 in Callands, VA to the late Forrest and Algie Adkins. "Chris" and her husband, Wallace "Wally" Reynolds, owned and operated Lamp and Gifts Ltd. on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News for 39 years.  Though long years of dementia and physical decline had deprived her of the experiences she had once enjoyed, the faithful, loving care of her husband and daughter enabled Chris to remain safely at home until the angels came for her that Wednesday night.  The fact that, in her final hours and after many weeks of confusion, she recognized them both and told them of her love for them was a priceless last gift.

In addition to her husband Wally, and their daughter, Kimberly Reynolds Allen, Chris leaves behind sisters-in-law, Marie Murphy and Charlotte Vincent; brother-in-law William Reynolds; and 16 nieces and nephews.  Those waiting for her in heaven include her parents; sisters, Peggie Grindstaff, Paulette Gregory, Brenda Eanes and Anita Adkins; sisters-in-law, Betty Mae Akers and Edna Kerbs; son-in-law James Allen; and two nieces.

A member of Denbigh Baptist Church in Newport News for 54 years, Chris was an exceptionally loving wife and mother who lived and walked by faith.  We have the full assurance that she is now safely home, and that the next time we see her, she will be happy, healthy and whole.  Until that sweet day of reunion, our memories of the joyful times we shared with our beloved Chris will be a comforting blessing.

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." Psalm 30:5
