Mary Bean Bailey was a caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She never met a stranger and loved to make people laugh. Mary breaking out in song was a routine part of any conversation. She passed away peacefully on September 3, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.

Mary was born on December 23rd, 1945 and raised in Asheboro, North Carolina. She was in her high school band, studied art, and she was known as one of the three Bean Sisters, singing Southern Gospel together. She moved to Virginia in the late 60's to be closer to her sisters who had also moved to this area. In every life circumstance, her faith in her Savior was evident.

Mary is survived by her children, David Lee Bailey and his wife, Angela, and Sheila Bailey Downs and her husband, Raymond; grandchildren Melissa Downs and Micah Bailey; one sister, Vivian Bean Winslow; and her beloved nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lee Bailey, to whom she was married 48 years; her parents, Effie and George Bean; her brother John P. Beane, and sister Toby Bean Boyea; and her grandson Joshua Michael Bailey.

A visitation will be from 6-7:00PM on Monday, September 6, 2021 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 1 PM. at Peninsula Memorial Park.
