Mark Edward
Mcclelland
d. Aug 27, 2021
It is with great sadness that our beloved husband and father, Mark Edward McClelland, left his earthly home and arrived in his heavenly home with his Lord on August 27, 2021. Mark was born in Richmond and moved to Poquoson in 1962 where he continued to live until his death.
Mark was predeceased by his mother and father, Edward L. and Elizabeth McClelland, and his brother Michael L. McClelland, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, June Forrest McClelland; his daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Steven Schott; his grandson, Walker Schott, who was his pride and joy; and his beloved dog Harley Bones.
Mark loved the Lord and his family, and his devotedness was evident in each of them. Whether that was through shopping trips and other special times with his wife, banana splits at Dairy Queen with his daughter, helping his "son" at their home, or instilling a love of motorcycles and dirt bikes in his grandson.
He honorably survived during the Vietnam conflict as a Private First Class and received the National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Expert Rifleman medal during his service to our Country. After leaving the military, Mark attended the Newport News Apprentice School graduating in 1975 as a Journeyman Machinist. He was a talented woodworker, artist, cook, gardener, and animal lover.
Mark was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown where he served as a Deacon in the church. He loved greeting and welcoming those who came to the church often having special gifts for those who he saw regularly. He was never afraid to help those in need whether it was lugging in large bags of produce from someone's gardens, parking the elderly attendee's cars when they struggled, and being that warm face when people entered the church for the first time. He loved the Lord with all his heart and instilled those principals in his family as an everlasting legacy here on this earth.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, also at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at Bethel Baptist Church or the Forward Initiative at Liberty Live Church – Gloucester.
"Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" We will miss you terribly but are assured that we will see you again.
