Obituary

Mark was born in Danville, Illinois on July 17, 1962 to his parents Dorothea (Dietz) Lynch Adams and James Arthur Lynch. Mark passed away on August 23, 2024. He grew up loving his hometown and after graduating from Eastern he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army.

After climbing a bit, a young lieutenant went on to serve in Germany. In 1988, the young lieutenant and the rest of his platoon were in Schwabach, Germany keeping security detail overlooking the wall from West to East Germany. He was there to witness and participate in its destruction.

The family moved several times during his career, landing in Virginia in 2005.  He retired in 2011 from service and in 2017 from working.   He was a devoted family man and enjoyed sports and the outdoors, especially wide open spaces. Mark appreciated thrift and value. He placed family above career.Mark Lynch went on to serve 25 years, earning his way up to Lieutenant Colonel.

He preceded in death by both his parents; and is survived by his wife, Linda (Crobons) Lynch; their four kids, Adam, Rachel, Margaret and Suzanne Lynch; his brothers and sisters, James Lynch (Cynthia), J. Michael Lynch (Barbara), Jean Thompson, Elizabeth Lynch, Catherine Rinner (James), and Paul Lynch; seventeen nieces and nephews; and thirteen great nieces and nephews.

Mark always said that he prayed for God to heal the children with cancer instead of Mark. With that in mind, in lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
