Hampton
Mamie Elizabeth Mossen, affectionately known as "Bet," was called home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2026. She departed this life surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of strength, grace, and unwavering faith.
Born on October 24, 1940, in York County, Virginia, Bet was a proud lifelong resident of the state she cherished. She lived a life grounded in humility, family, and faith—always carrying herself with quiet dignity, compassion, and a generous heart.
Bet graduated from James Weldon High School and was a longtime and devoted member of Zion Prospect Baptist Church. At Zion, she served faithfully and joyfully, participating in the Voices of Zion Senior Choir, Morning Glory, and Prayer Services. Her presence in the church community was a blessing to all who worshiped alongside her.
For 25 years, Bet was employed with Wellworth Cleaners, where she was known for her strong work ethic, dedication, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her dependability and gentle spirit made a lasting impression on co‑workers and customers alike.
After her time at Wellworth, Bet continued to pursue her education, attending and graduating from Tidewater Community College. She later worked as an accountant for JTASS, where her professionalism, accuracy, and integrity were deeply valued.
Bet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Lewis Mossen Sr.; her parents, Louis and Lucy Lavania Griffin; and her siblings Arnel Winbush, Emmit Griffin, and Lutrulla Griffin.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Charles L. Mossen Jr. of Washington, D.C., Felecia C. McNeill of Farifield, California, Ambrew L. Mossen of Hampton, VA and Charlene L. Mossen (Ruben Ponce) of Long Beach, California.
She is also lovingly remembered by her four grandchildren: Natasha Turner (Ozzie) of Maryland, Dominic M. McNeill, Tray IM. McNeill, and Tatiana A. McNeill, all of California;
her four great‑granddaughters: Kailaya McNeill, Geigianna McNeill, Aubrey Lopez and Aniyah McNeill.
Her sisters Juanita Nazareth of Newport News and Janice Powell (Lionell) of Carrollton, Virginia;
