Kristy Lynn Verlander, 41, long-time resident of Newport News passed away June 23, 2022 from complications due to her long hard battle with the rare auto-immune disease Susac's syndrome. Kristy is survived by her mother Joanne Holt Rodgers; step-dad David Rodgers; sister Jeanne Verlander; step-brother Richie Rodgers, his wife Rachel Rodgers, their daughter Emma Rodgers; Uncle Ron, Uncle Robert; Loving Aunt Cindy; cousin Dennis; cousin Vicki, her husband Shane, and their son Gavin; cousin Shannon, her husband Michael, and their children Andrew and Emily.

Kristy earned her Associate Degree while working at Cybernetics. She went straight from high school to Cybernetics and enjoyed working in the shipping department. She changed jobs after 20 some years and tried Farm Fresh. She continued there and worked until the stores closed.

Kristy was an avid fan of the NFL Dallas Cowboys. She especially enjoyed watching when her favorites Tony Romo and Jason Witten were playing. She also enjoyed ribbing her step-dad since he was a redskins fan. She enjoyed shopping at her favorite stores Aeropostale and Forever 21 and especially the Guess store. Kristy was a huge fan of Tim McGraw and Keith Urban and attempted to go to every concert when they were playing locally.

Kristy will be deeply missed especially by mom because Kristy called her several times a day.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 pm on Tuesday June 28th at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home located at 210 Harpersville Rd. Newport News, VA 23601.

The family would like to send a special thank you to each doctor, nurse, and staff that came in contact with Kristy while she fought this most recent battle at Sentara Leigh Hospital.
