Kenneth "Ray" Pennington, 79, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Ray was a longtime resident of Newport News and was employed by Nice Brothers for many years. Ray was one of the "R"s in RJR Builders for the last 40 plus years. He was talented in framing, general construction, remodeling and especially trim work.

Ray knew no stranger. He was always there to help at a moment's notice to help a neighbor take down a tree, do yard work or make a repair. Ray and his family spent countless days every year at the family property in Harman, West Virginia planting thousands of daffodils in ways to reflect stories of Christ's life. People would come from miles around to gaze upon the beautiful flowers. Ray even saw a need for the visitors to be more comfortable so he was able to mold benches from concrete for them to relax while they rested.

Many contributions were made by Ray and his family to the Harman community by sharing what they had with others or just helping children and others by being a Godly example. Ray counted it a joy to share and give to others without receiving anything in return. He will be missed by those who benefited from his talents and his compassion.

A time of visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM Thursday, June 20, 2024 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service and burial in Pennington Cemetery will take place in West Virginia by Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home.
