Obituary

Today, June 9 2024, we said goodbye to a true fighter.  Kenneth Shockley, Jr. has moved on to be with our Lord and Savior.  He was 60 years old.  He passed peacefully with his loving devoted amazing mother at his side.  Ken graduated from York High School in 1981.  He worked at Maaco as an auto body apprentice.

At the age of 22, Ken was in a major life altering accident that left him quadriplegic but he did not let this deter him from having a full life.  Ken was determined to make the best of a very challenging situation and always managed to champion through.  You would often find him driving his van, shooting pool with friends, going to family cookouts, having lunch and going to Langley Speedway with his good friend John.  He was an avid bird and animal lover, had a heart of gold, was a diehard Redskins fan, loved NBA basketball, not to mention his passion for NASCAR and Fantasy Football League!  A true inspiration to all.  He was always surrounded by his family and people that loved and cared for him and he gave it right back.  He was a warrior till the very end.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Patricia Shockley, her loving partner Gary Amick; his sisters and brothers-in law, Debra and Gene Gelner, Shelly and Brian Dvorak, Kristy and Greg Rudy.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Brian and Shaina, Jennifer and Scott, Kassie and James, Matthew and Autumn, Joshua and Marissa, Caitlin and Tyler, Samuel, Emma, Will, Jake; three devoted pets, Lucy, Jack and Harley; and so many other loving relatives, Uncle Carlton Shockley Sr. and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Shockley, Sr.; grandparents, Donally and Velma Chappell, Carlton and Evelyn Shockley; and his Uncles, Gene Chappell, Bradley DeAlba; and Aunt Lois Smoot.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 14, 2024 at Peninsula Memorial Park with Minister Joe Thompson officiating.

We would like to thank the entire care team and family who provided tireless dedicated amazing care and support throughout the years and during his most recent difficult challenges. You all made such a huge difference in his quality of life right to the very end.
