Kathryn June
Nowinsky
d. Oct 29, 2024
NEWPORT NEWS
On October 29, 2024, Kathryn June Nowinsky was able to breathe freely and once again dance with her husband, William A. Nowinsky. She lived her 77 years never running from adventure and would take a turn just to see where that road goes.
I believe that sense of adventure came from traveling the world from an early age as a Navy brat. Kathy was born in Spruce Pine, North Carolina and lived in places such as Malta and Ecuador until the family settled in Oxon Hill, MD where she graduated high school and started attending University of Maryland as a physical education major. She met and married Bill Nowinsky whose Army career led them to Germany where they were blessed to adopt Veronica. Kathy loved to call Newport News, VA home after settling here in 1984. Although she had retired as a military spouse, she loved supporting the military as a civil service secretary and found her ideal placement in the TRADOC Chaplains office where she could watch the ships at Fort Monroe. She was very active in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church as a member of Saint Martha's Guild and worked tirelessly with Virginia Society of Human Life to protect the unborn and vulnerable.
Kathy was preceded in death by her Husband William (Bill) A. Nowinsky and parents, Patricia Whitecavage (Bare) and father Leo Whitecavage. Left to mourn Kathy's passing are her daughter, Veronica M. Nowinsky; her granddaughter, Kimesia M Nowinsky; and her sister Linda Miller-Rodriguez. She also leaves many extended family members and friends she loved dearly.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 100 Harpersville Rd, Newport News, VA, 23601 on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 11am with visitation and reception to follow.
