Judith Ann
Jones
d. Aug 12, 2025
Judith Ann (Queensen) Jones, 84, of Newport News, VA, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 after a short illness.
She was born in St. Louis, MO on April 27, 1941. She was an active member of the International Order of Job's Daughters and served as Honor Queen of Bethel 13 in 1958. She graduated with a BS in Retailing/Business from Washington University in 1962. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Eta Mu Pi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Mortar Board.
She moved to the Hampton Roads area in 1962 with her husband and settled in Newport News in 1964. They were founding members of Denbigh (United) Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the Denbigh United Presbyterian Church especially the Women of the Church, her Sunday school class and her circle where she provided inspirational bible studies. Judith was a devout Christian who spread "star-shine" wherever she went.
Judith was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Ruben L. Jones, her son, Steven L. Jones, her parents Federick W. Queensen, Jr. and Alice K. Queensen, and her brother Alan F. Queensen. She is survived by her children Daniel S. Jones (Michelle) and Jill A. Oberfeitinger (Jay), eight grandchildren – Seth, Brandon, Evan, Caitlin, Lauren, Carl (Claudia), Christine (Branden), and Ashley (Tony), a great-granddaughter Lilibet who she referred to as "my Lily", a beloved sister, Barbara Brown, and was a dear cousin and aunt to several special nieces and nephews.
Some of her closest friends Martha Miller, Gail McLeod and Charlotte Eason along with Judith were known as the "gangsta grannies". Together, they often did good works but also played a mean game of bridge. Judith was so fortunate to have so many friends and neighbors who were a blessing in her life.
Judith was a lover of all sports but most especially her beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She was also noted for her quick wit and open heart.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the tender care she received from the nursing staff at Mary Immaculate Hospital and Compassus Hospice Care especially Daniel and Noe fondly referred to as "her boys".
Judith's funeral service will be held at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church, 302 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA 23608 on Friday, August 29, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM and the service will be conducted at 11:30 AM officiated by Rev. Deborah Dail followed by the internment at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd. Newport News, VA 23606. After the internment, family and friends are invited to a gathering for refreshments and remembrances in the church fellowship hall.
