Johnnie Joyce Adams passed away on April 24th, 2019 at the age of 82 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Adams; his mother, Lena Mae Belangia; grandson, Ernest Scott Chestnut; and brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Frances S. Adams of Carrollton, VA; his daughter, Pamela Adams of Carrollton, VA; his grandson and his family, Bryan, Alexandria, and Roland Adams of Newport News, VA; his sister, Becky Little of Adams Creek, NC; as well as many other nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Johnnie lived his 82 years doing what he loved. When he couldn't be found in his recliner, snacking on chocolate, he was taking pictures of his family and friends, or was working with his hands, a love he engaged in most of his life. He spent his working years working in construction building many things, but nothing as great as the house that he shared with his wife, Frances. As much as he protested, he loved animals, especially his cat Rain and his dog, Sydney. He was often seen with a cat in his lap, a treat in his hand, and a sparkle in his eye.

His one true love in life, however, was always his wife, Frances. Throughout their nearly 60 years in marriage, they went through many ups and downs, but they always made it through. Johnnie and Frances were always inseparable, and when he talked of her, you could tell he was just as in love with her that day, as he had been from the day they first met.

Johnnie always loved to laugh, and he shared that laughter with everyone he met. Whether it was telling the latest joke he heard, or giving you a hard time, Johnnie always brought a smile to everyone's face. He had a zest for life that was second to none, and in his long life, he touched many people. "Life is a beautiful ride."

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, 2019 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home from 1 - 2 PM. followed by a funeral service at 2 PM with Pastor Matt Parron officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
