John C. Wood, Jr., 64, passed away on May 23, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Richmond, VA on January 17, 1957 to the late John Sr.
and Gladys Wood, he resided in Virginia where he lived most of his life except when he was in the Navy. John graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News in 1975. After leaving the Navy he was a Master Mechanic until his retirement in 2015. He was an avid sports fan and followed NASCAR (#11), the Washington Nationals and the Washington Football Team.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 17 years Patricia Wood; two sons, Brandon Wood and his wife Rosemary of Gloucester, and Joshua Wood of Newport News; two step daughters, Marcia Parker and her husband Fred of Los Angeles, CA, and Stacey Swindells and her husband Josh of Maysville, NC; six grandsons, Brandon Wood, Jr., Austin Wood, Logan Wood, Alex Parker, Isaac and Aiden Swindells; one granddaughter Kelsey Parker; along with many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 7 to 8 PM at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 210 Harpersville Road, Newport News. Burial will be private.
