John H. Turlington, 84, of Newport News, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on November 14, 2021, surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle over the past few weeks. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Riverside Regional Medical Center for their loving care and support.

John was born in Harnett County, North Carolina to Randall "Buck" and Josephine Turlington. John owned and operated three family businesses; Deer Park Exxon for over 26 years, Turlington Service Center and J&E Asphalt Maintenance Company. All located in Newport News, VA. He was an active member of Warwick Assembly of God Church for over 50+ years. John was the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troup 303 for over 40 years before retiring. He was extremely proud of the numerous amount of young men that earned their Eagle Scout rank during his leadership. John truly enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) and the Sons of Confederate Veterans Mechanized Cavalry. He was a loving friend to many. If you ever needed a helping hand, there was John coming to the rescue.

John was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Emily. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Randy and Becky Turlington, David and Kelly Turlington; granddaughters and their husbands, Samantha Turlington and Matthew Ryburn, Leigh and Anthony Salazar; grandson Jonathan Turlington; great-granddaughter Amelia Grace Salazar; sisters, Sue Gilbert and Bette Stephenson; brother and sister-in-laws, Larry Campbell, Shirley and Gerald Frix, Joe and Linda Campbell, Betty and Ed Johnson; his sweetheart and companion Peggy Bernd; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Warwick Assembly of God Church, 1228 Todds Lane, Hampton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Warwick Assembly of God Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent and designated to the "building fund" at Warwick Assembly of God Church. The family would like to thank you for your love, prayers and support during this time.
