John William Gordon Deane, 53, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away in his home on November 14, 2025. He was the beloved son of George and Ruth Deane.

He was born in Newport News on April 25, 1972, and spent his childhood days with his siblings playing football and basketball, debating, wrestling, playing chess and strategy games, and exploring. From a young age, John's settled confidence and track record of success in whatever he attempted attracted a crowd; you always wanted John on your team because you were sure to win.

John graduated from Denbigh High School before enlisting in the United States Marines, where he proudly served as an anti-tank assault guided missileman, travelling all over the world until he was honorably discharged. He was a rifle expert and pistol expert, receiving multiple medals and certificates of commendation for instructing others how to shoot. Not only an expert marksman, John was an all-around straight-shooter telling it like he saw it, and always with kindness and a smile.

John's smile and sense of humor extended across his many hobbies, making jokes with family or talking trash at the shooting range. Through his passion for cars, weapons, or music, as well as his love of hunting and fishing, John's confidence and natural ability were magnetic, drawing people in and challenging them to go further. He was an avid EverQuest gamer with a large online community of friends, and he never met an animal that didn't like him.

John will always be remembered for his generosity, kindness and willingness to help. We couldn't have asked for a better son, brother and uncle, and will miss John every day.

John is survived by his loving parents, George and Ruth; his devoted siblings, Jonathan (Yelena) Deane, Stephen (Kim) Deane, and Joanna (John) Schiavone; his eight nieces and nephews; and his aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at New Covenant Church, 1079 Big Bethel Road in Hampton.
