As a boy Jerry Smith attended Ivy Farms Baptist Church and played little league football as a center. He delivered papers for the Daily Press and worked at Bush Gardens in the summers.  Later in life he drove a tractor trailer and met Diane, a fellow trucker. He and Diane got married and had two girls, Magan and Krista, who gave him four wonderful grandchildren, Hunter, Chase, Wesson, and Finn.  Jerry also worked part time with his Dad at Highway Motors Used Auto Parts and drove a wrecker for Parkview.  He said that Ricky and Carolyn Wright were among his best friends.  Lastly, Jerry moved to South Hill and worked at a truck weight station for the state. He was known to give a few breaks to truckers because he understood the hard life of a truck driver.

The family is receiving friends on Tuesday January 20, 2026 at W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home for a Memorial Service at 6:00 pm to honor Jerry Smith's life.
