James "Jimmy" Wilson Wright, Jr., 72, lifelong Peninsula resident and avid baseball fan, died on February 15, 2024.  He was a 1970 graduate of Warwick High School, where he played baseball; and was the recipient of baseball scholarships to Ferrum College, where he graduated in 1972 and Virginia Tech, where he graduated in 1974.

Above all else, his family and faith were very important to him.

His survivors include two sisters, Betty Myrrh and Bethna Lila Jackson and her husband John; one brother David Lee Wright and his wife Cynthia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Sr. and Lila M. Wright; and a sister, Beverly W. Gathright.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Faith Community Church, 657 Harpersville Road, Newport News, with a funeral service following at 10 AM with Pastor Gus Diggs officiating.  Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
