Obituary

Jacque left us peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, to go be with her Lord and Savior, and rejoin her beloved husband (Bert) and many other family and friends who preceded her over the years.  Jacque was 88 years old and she lived a full and blessed life.  She passed away at her home, surrounded by many in her family for the week prior to Saturday afternoon.  For the 17 months since Bert's passing, Jacque was never alone, and was continuously cared for by family and friends who loved her dearly.

Jacque was born on March 4, 1937, the daughter of William and Ruth Transue, in Denver, Colorado.  She moved to Crewe, VA when she was 5, where she grew up, and graduated from Crewe High School after 11th grade in 1954.  During high school, she hosted a wildly popular local radio program called "Teens and Tunes".  Jacque then attended nursing school through Riverside Hospital in Newport News.  During this time, she met Bert, and was immediately smitten.  He reciprocated, and they were happily married in June 1957, to begin their nearly 68 years of wedded bliss.  Almost a year after their marriage, Larry joined the party, with 3 more sons (Keith, Ken, and Todd) to follow over the next 8 years.  While raising her family and for a number of years after, she worked as a nurse, with her longest employment being with Dr. Ken King of Allergy Associates.  Jacque retired from her nursing career on the same day Bert retired from his job in 2001, and they thoroughly enjoyed their next 23 years together.

Jacque's life was characterized by her love for her Lord Jesus and for her husband and growing family, and her love and service for her church family.  She deeply loved her husband, their four sons, and the wives and grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed.  Jacque and Bert began attending New Covenant church in 1969.  They were very active members and loved helping people in the church, providing a temporary home to many over the years, and hosting Friday night worship services in their home for many years.  They also loved their annual family reunion summer camping trips for numerous years.  These vacations were usually shared with extended family and frequently with other friends of the family.  There never could be too many.

Jacque and Bert loved to share the good news of salvation through Jesus to everyone they met.  They raised their children (and grandchildren) to love Jesus as well, and they truly practiced what they preached.

Jacque was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, her parents, William and Ruth Transue, her two half-brothers, Jimmy Transue and Mike Flaven, and her son Ken.  She is survived by her sons, Larry (Ruth), Keith (Jane), and Todd (Jennifer), as well as Ken's wife Cindy.  Her loving grandchildren are Courtney (Julie), Jason (Delia), Anne (Liam), Casie, Alex (Kristin), Bryan (Bekah), Joe (Kaitlin), Hannah (Bo), Zoe (Leka), Silas, and too many great-grandchildren to even count.

The family would like to particularly thank Nancy Dawn Cole for her years of loving care and devotion to Bert and Jacque together, followed by an even deeper commitment of care for Jacque following Bert's death in May 2024.

Also, we are so very thankful for their church family and, above all, their loving Savior, Jesus, who gave them tremendous joy throughout their lives and even more joy that they are now experiencing with their Savior and loved ones throughout eternity.  All glory be to God!

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jacque's life on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11 a.m., New Covenant Church, 1079 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton.
