Hartsell Franklin Williams was born April 17, 1939 to Anne and Hertsell Williams of Morganton, NC. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Scott. He loved his family dearly and his wife of 67 years, Betty Arney Williams; his daughter Diane of Roanoke, Virginia; his grandchildren, Jordan, Lauren and Ben along with their spouses, Maryann, John Thomas and Logan. Great grandchildren who brought such delight are Micah, Lucy and Lincoln, Stella, Henry and soon to be born baby girl. Frank has one surviving sister, Rebecca. Upon graduation from NC state University with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, he immediately took a job with the National Space Aeronautical Administration in Hampton, Virginia where he continued to live and raise his family for more than three decades. Frank held many positions with NASA in Hampton and loved all the various jobs of his contribution to the space program. After Franks retirement in 1998, he was asked to return for a special assignment. Frank was told, " Good things happen when the gray beards are here." In the years following retirement, he was involved in several space projects taking him to Cape Canaveral, Florida for months at a time. For decades, Frank and his family have been actively involved in Liberty Baptist Church, now called Liberty Live church. He loved and served the Lord and the people whom he met there. Hobbies have included wood working, deer hunting, fishing in the bay and ocean. During retirement, Frank especially loved designing and creating heirloom pieces from walnut, his favorite species of wood. Frank was also an active member of the Fish Club for many years. In 1955, he became an eagle scout and continued to use the knowledge gained and the exemplary character expected in boy scouts throughout his life.
